Jen Nelson

Jen here..  By day I am a strategic business manager for an engineering company, but in my spare time I escape with my two cats to the craft studio to dabble with my creative side.  Clean and simple in style with a few exceptions to that rule if the mood takes me.  I’m really excited to be joining the team as guest designer this month and hope you enjoy my makes.

Faves with Guest Anita Madden

Anita Madden is back with her final project as a guest.   Thank you Anita for joining us the past 2 months!  Anita is ending her guest stint with more of her faves, so scroll on down and learn a little more about Anita.

I’m sharing one of my favorite YNS holiday stamps today.  I also love ink-blended backgrounds so I combined both of these for today’s card.
I sponged Peacock Feathers, Faded Jeans, and Chipped Sapphire distress inks to create the night sky.  Then I stamped the little bunny and tree from the Frosty Friends stamp set and colored them with copies.  I used the coordinating dies to die cut the images.  I adore that little bunny and I’ve used that stamp to make lots of cards and tags this holiday season.
I added a silver bow and glitter on the snow on the tree.  I adhered Winter Wonderland Sparkly Gumdrops to add some pretty sparkle to my card.

I find my joy in simple card making but I do enjoy making interactive cards occasionally. Really really excited to guest design for YNS. I am absolutely grateful to Karen for this opportunity.

Kate Dykstra has been busy coloring and baking.  What better way to dress up your presentation of baked goods than with homemade tags?!

The stamps from the Holiday Globe set are just the right size for tags.

The Cool Tag Four Die set makes it easy to layer away with so many tag sizes to choose from.

Top off the tag with ribbon and a jingle bell to add a bit of whimsy.  What a way to dress up a bag full of shortbread cookies.

Happy Stamping and Baking!

12 Days of Christmas – Day Nine – Comment to Win!

Welcome to Day Nine of the 12 Days of Christmas!

On each of the 12 days, the team and guests are sharing inspiration to get you ready for the holidays.  Today, we have guest Tricia Traxler with a way to dress up a gift bag.

Remember, we are giving away a $25.00 YNS gift certificate!   Want a chance to win?   Leave a comment on each of the 12 Days of Christmas posts.  The more posts you comment on, the greater your odds of winning.  We will select 1 random comment, among all the comments left on the posts, as the winner.  Comments must be left by Sunday, December 16th at 11:59 pm est and the winner will be announced on December 18th.

Hi everyone!  It’s Tricia here to share one of my favorite easy gift ideas… clear bags filled with goodies and tied with a tag.  You can fill the bag with anything from handcrafted cards to store bought goodies tailored to the recipient, which makes it the most versatile gift ever!
My gift today is a K-cup of Peppermint Bark coffee (which is as good as it sounds!) and a Peppermint Bark candy bar presented in a matching mug, so I decided to stay with the theme and use the snowman mug from the Winter Wishes set, all dressed up in a peppermint-ish scarf.
To make the tag, I first stamped my image in Memento Black ink and colored it with Copics.  Then I cut it out with the largest Bookmark/Tag die – using the rounded end on top rather than the end with the hole.  I cut the tag off and used a decorative punch on the end.  Then I embossed my greeting in white on some coordinating cardstock and added a mat and some extra elements from the same cardstock before adding some twine and gold cording.
Happy creating!!

Welcome to Day Five of the 12 Days of Christmas!

Hello everyone!
I love making Christmas tags so that’s the project I’m sharing today.
I used the Cool Tag Three Die Set and cut three tags from white card stock.  I also cut a piece of pattern paper and acetate for each tag.
I adhered the pattern paper to the tag and then stamped tiny sentiments using the Holiday Mice stamp set.  I used liquid adhesive to adhere the acetate to the back side of the front tag pieces.
I added foam tape around the outer edge of the tag, added the sequins, and then adhered the front and back pieces of the tag together.  I used the bunnies from the Frosty Friends stamp set, colored them with Copics, and die cut them using the Frosty Friends Die Set.
A black glaze pen was used for the bunny eyes and I added polka-dots to their hats using my white gel pen.  I adhered the bunnies to the tags and then finished the tags with some ribbon, twine, and a bell.

Faves with Guest Anita Madden

Our November guest Anita Madden takes over the YNS Blog today and shares some of her faves!

I’m sharing a couple of favorites with you today.  My favorite technique lately is ink blending.  I love the beautiful backgrounds I can create by using distress inks and distress oxide inks.  I sponged Peacock Feathers and Wilted Violet distress oxide inks for this background and then flicked some water from a small paint brush to create the lighter spots.  Another favorite of mine is Christmas cards!  They’re one of my favorite kinds of cards to create so I couldn’t resist using the adorable Home For The Holidays set to make today’s card.
What are your faves?
